Here is the latest in the Dirt Rag universe for me. The article is about a female rider struggling to come to grips with her Multiple Sclerosis or MS.
The challenge for me was to think in terms of a female subject, not usually my first choice. Not for any reason other than being male, I think of myself in my minds eye when trying to come up with an image to illustrate.
The other challenge was to be respectful of the subject & illustrate in a way that neither shows any defect of the person, nor gives too much away about the story.

Recent DR illustration from October. It was to illustrate a letter submitted by a reader. It’s a little late posting it 3 months after it’s published… but hey, better late than never!

Welcome to the newly revised and updated website. I combined the old blog onto the portfolio site to simplify things a bit. That way I only have to update one site. I’m all about eliminating extra work these days.
So, I will be updating the page template to something more exciting soon too. But, this is huge for me since my last posts were months apart.
My most recent illustration was for Dirt Rag again. A delightful article about horse poo on trails. Yes, I’m serious. I know, I get all the best jobs!

Happy may. This is a good time for cyclists out there. No more cold weather gear. No more indoor trainer. And a new magazine to enjoy!
My friend Jeff just co-started a new mag and online mag:

Check it out.

This is obviously about those of us who can’t help but over-accessorize. The ipod, helmet cam, gps, satellite link, palm pilot and more.
Go old skool. Bike. Dirt. Sweat. That’s one reason so many of us are going with single speeds.
Keep it simple stupid!

This is an illustration of Lance Armstrong vs. Floyd Landis that was just used in Dirt Rag. The hardest thing about this illustration was making the faces recognizable. Also, I found myself wavering as to who’s side I was on.

I liked it and it seems that I found someone else who really liked it too. Kurt Gillespie, a Dirt Rag reader & super stoked mountain bike rider had this permanently attached to himself recently by Jared Phair of Dragon FX Tattoo and Piercing in Edmonton Alberta.
I noticed a few subtle changes that were made and I think they were really well done. I like Jared’s flames better than mine.
Sweet.
